Queen of baking and national treasure Mary Berry has been signed by the BBC as part of their expert pundit team for Match of the Day.
Well known across the country for her cake and pastry expertise, Mary has been contracted on a three year deal and is lined up to partner long term host Gary Lineker.
“We were well aware of Mary’s desire to work alongside another grey-haired male host and Gary was the obvious choice”, explained BBC’s head of unadvertised recruitment.
Since completing this year’s Great British Bake Off, we were conscious of the urgent need to place Mary as soon as possible and, with just two shows created on her behalf so far, we knew we had much more work to do”
“Now that we’ve successfully placed Sarah Lancashire and James Nesbitt in two hastily concocted dramas and squeezed in a third show for Claire Balding, Mary was back on our list of appointments straight away”
It is thought Miss Berry will begin hosting the show at the beginning of February, with Gary acting as co-anchor for the popular goal of the month section.
It is not yet clear as to her involvement with the upcoming World Cup qualifiers
At the point of going to press no comment had been received from Mr Lineker and Mr Shearer.
