Following the recent fine handed down to England after the team displayed the commemorative poppy at a world cup qualifier, FIFA are set to punish England again if they choose to go ahead with their chosen clothing next week.
“We can’t be seen to be soft on this matter” stated FIFA’s head of non-football related matters, Ben Dasher. “Once we turn a blind eye to one of these infringements, it will be the thin end of a very long wedge” he explained.
Christmas jumpers are seen by FIFA as a breach of their ‘religious associations’ code and, as such, could see the England team liable to a heavy fine or even an exclusion from the forthcoming World Cup competition.
It is not yet known whether England are set to change their plans for the party but, in the light of their recent brush with the organisation, it is rumoured a more compliant stance may be the order of the season.
